New Makati Vehicle Underpass Construction Starts

Traffic is about to get worse in Makati City and its nearby places. The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) announced beginning of the P1.27 Billion Gil Puyat (Buendia) - Makati Avenue - Paseo de Roxas underpass project for vehicles.

The target completion date for the new 4-lane, 880 meter-long underpass is on January 2017.

The project also features a flood-free tunnel, the underpass will have two pumping stations with three submersible pumps on top of a tunnel drain box and reinforced concrete pipe culvert.

The DPWH Secretary Rogelio Singson appealed to public for understanding while the construction takes place.

MMDA released a video guide for the motorists for the underpass project. The video shows the alternate routes for the affected areas.

The project will be done in different phases. Phase 1 will include the closure of the Buendia Avenue and Makati Avenue Intersection. The second phase includes the closure of Paseo de Roxas and Buendia Avenue Intersection.

It would affect right turn vehicles from EDSA to Buendia Avenue.
