TV5's Kontrabando on ABS-CBN Love Teams vs ALDUB for TV Ratings

Last September 26, 2015, when ABS-CBN's It's Showtime kicked off their ANIMversary special. As part of their celebration, the show invited top Kapamilya love teams like to perform in Smart Araneta Coliseum.

They are Daniel Padilla and Kathryn Bernardo (KathNiel), James Reid and Nadine Lustre (JaDine), Kim Chiu and Xian Lim (KimXi), Liza Soberano and Enrique Gil (LizQuen) and Coco Martin and Julia Montes. Plus the show's Vhong Navarro and Anne Curtis (VhongAnne), Billy Crawford and Coleen Garcia (BiCol) and Vice Ganda and Karylle or ViceRylle.

Meanwhile, Eat Bulaga declared the National Pabebe Wave Day on the same date as a way of bidding goodbye to all the bad vibes. It was also the same day when Alden Richards visited Yaya DUB (Maine Mendoza) at the Zobeyala Mansion of Lola Nidora (Wally Bayola), Lola Tidora (Paolo Ballesteros) and Lola Tinidora (Jose Manalo).

Hashtags and TV Ratings

On Twitter, the official hashtag of Eat Bulaga, #ALDubEBforLOVE spawned 25.6 million tweets, making them the top trending topic in the Philippines and Worldwide. While the #ShowtimeKapamilyaDay hashtag produced only 6.3 million tweets.

On the ratings war, It's Showtime also failed to defeat ALDUB with their star-studded celebration at the big dome. Eat Bulaga got 45.7% rating on Mega Manila households while It's Showtime got only 11.9%.

Henri Smegmann, the entertainment culture expert of the show gave his comments about the efforts of It's Showtime to win on the ratings war. He also commented on the pressure the show received from the management of ABS-CBN and gave advice on how to handle the situation.
