Jesus actor falls off the high cross

As part of the local observance of Holy Week, every year on Good Friday in the Philippines, devotees willingly carry heavy wooden crosses, whip their backs until they're bloody (self-flagellation), and allow themselves to be crucified. These are all in in imitation of Jesus Christ's suffering and death.

Senakulo actor reenacts Jesus' crucifixion falls off the high cross

Devout Catholics consider these acts as a penance to ask forgiveness for sins, to give thanks to God, and to fulfil their panata (vow). But what happens if, while you're on the cross being hoisted up, you fall down?

In the video, one devotee was already "crucified" on the cross when something goes wrong and he falls down. It was a good thing that he was able to hold onto the rope to somehow lessen the height of his fall. You can hear the collective shouts of surprise from those who are watching and the worry of people as they run towards him to check. Hopefully, he wasn't hurt that bad.

Some commenters, however, jokingly said that Jesus rose up from the dead and not fall down.
