Man survives 3 days underwater inside a sunken ship

Harrison Odjegba Okene and 11 other crew members were aboard a ship called the Jascon 4 which was sailing on the Atlantic Ocean when it capsized in May 2013.

The 29-year-old Nigerian was the sole survivor but he had to spend three days trapped in an air pocket 100 feet underwater, in the dark with no food and only a can of Coke and two flashlights.

However, these flashlights gave out after less than a day, leaving him in darkness. Furthermore, there was the added fear for predators as he could even hear sharks preying on the dead bodies of his crew mates through the walls.

The survivor was asked to wear the rescue gears.

After praying to God for a miracle for 60 hours, he was found after a scuba diving team conducted a dead-body recovery effort. Okene swam through pitch-dark waters in the sunken boat and tapped the diver on the back of his neck, scaring him as the diver thought he was a corpse.

His wife Akpovona Okene, 27, said he still suffers nightmares even months after the terrible ordeal. He said in an interview that he had promised God that if he survives the ordeal, he will never go back in the sea and He had since then found work as a cook in solid ground.
