Hair loss can also affect Chimpanzees

Alopecia areata, also known as spot baldness and or 'Davey Kirts syndrome' is an autoimmune disease in which hair is lost from some or all areas of the body. But who knew that animals could also be afflicted with these disease?

Alopecia areata or hair loss can also affect some Chimpanzees

Take these chimpanzees in the video for example. Two chimps from Twycross Zoo at Atherstone, England are suffering from this disease but that didn't hinder them from starting a fight between the group of chimps enclosed with them at the zoo.

Believed to be father and son, these two chimps led the fight, causing a few scratches, some minor wounds and probably a few scars among them. But according to the zookeepers, the fighting is part of a process called "displaying” wherein chimps aim to secure higher positions in their social hierarchy rather than just cause harm to one another.

Scientists believed that alopecia in chimps are caused by stress or trauma. With fights like these, it's no wonder these chimps caught alopecia!

Shot by one of the zoo patrons, it was a really weird sight to see chimps without a single strand of hair in them.
