Doctors found parasitic insects on Woman's eyelashes, caused intense itching

We all know that lice can be found on our hair, but what happened to this woman is really terrifying. Ms. Zhang from Shandong in north east China, was experiencing itch and pain in her left eye.

She was recovering from stroke in Haida Hospital in Shandong province on July 20 for a cerebral infarction, a type of stroke when she felt the itch in her eye, but Ms. Zhang thought it was just a result of her recovery, she didn't get alarmed because she believed that she had an infection.

When she can't bear the pain, she let her son to check her eye. While checking, her son screamed:
Mum! There's stuff moving on your eyelid!

She immediately went to a specialist to let her eye be checked.

Dr. Bao Guisheng, an eye specialist, found 20 little worms lying beneath the layer of white discharge in her eye.

These lice were all white color,
said Dr.Bao.

I thought they were some sort of a parasitic bug, like mites or something, but when we looked through a microscope, we saw that they were lice,
he added.

The video shows what appears to be hiding in Ms. Zhang's eye and eggs that are ready to hatch. They are called phthiriasis, the wingless insects are not dangerous but are itchy.

These insects feed off the blood and skin of people. They are contagious and can be easily spread to other people. Extreme itching of the eyelid, small red spots, and debris around eyelashes are some symptoms of having lice.

After Ms. Zhang's check up, her eye was sterilized and nurses took the tiny insects one by one by using a small tweezers.
