This amazing tiny creature can turn itself invisible in a blink of an eye
This tiny copepods, or a group of small crustaceans found in the sea and nearly every freshwater habitat, appear to shine in different hues, from red, violet, to blue and then instantly vanish. Research states that "shimmering animals' colors result when light bounces off of the thin, hexagonal crystal plates that cover their backs. These plates also help them vanish, if only fleetingly."Interestingly enough, it is only the males who are able to do this as the females are completely translucent. Scientists think that this is because these colorful displays are for the males to help mating partners. Male sea sapphires swim in spirals to attract females whereas its momentary disappearance during their spiral swim may act to deter predators.
