Giant Squid caught swimming in a Japanese bay

A giant squid was caught swimming near the Toyama Bay in Japan last December 23, 2015. A scuba diver tried to get a closer glimpse of the so called "Kraken".

The squid is approximately 13 feet long, a rare sight for the locals of Honshu. This species of squid can grow up to 43 feet in length according to scientists.

Nobody knows why this giant squid swims near the bay while they are known for diving hundreds of feet under the ocean.

Deep-ocean dwelling squid

The females can grow up to 13 meters or 43 feet while the males are shorter with 10 meters long or 33 feet. They are the second largest species of squids, the largest are the Colossal squids. Source: Wikipedia
